Why Supplier Diversity is Right for Biotech DEI
We are honored to be part of MassBio’s 2023 DEI conference in Cambridge’s Kendall Square. Our focus is helping companies add supplier/vendor diversity to their DEI plans and in a way that lifts their culture and engages employees. We have learned a great deal about the sector while helping Alnylam, Synlogic, Cerevel, Sage and others and here are some things worth sharing:
Biotech companies have many reasons to embrace supplier diversity. Here are some that our biotech clients have shared:
- Our employees want us to be mindful of social issues and diversity and also expect us to be creative and innovative
- The patients and their families that we think about every day are from all backgrounds and ethnicities so our employees and our vendors/suppliers should be too
- It’s about living our core values, being intentional, being in touch with the communities where we work and live
- If we don’t make an effort to be inclusive we will end up with the usual suspects and that is not good enough
- Our company made a commitment to racial justice, diversity and inclusion, equity – and how we spend our money seems like a very important part of that commitment
And here are some of the categories where we have helped them put their desires to work looking at and working with diverse suppliers and vendors:
- Recruiters
- Accountants
- Biotech innovation consultants
- Graphic designers
- Travel services
- Promotional swag
- Corporate gifts
- Onboarding kits
- Catering/florists/event logistics
- Lab supplies
- Facilities Maintenance
- Construction/Remodeling
If any of this sounds like your company, what are you waiting for? Let’s work together.
